The VITAL programme has launched the 2026 edition of the Hospital Leadership Competency Framework, updating governance requirements in the context of digital transformation and hospital autonomy.

The framework comprises core competency groups: strategic thinking, people leadership, quality and safety governance, financial and performance management, and digital and innovation capability. Each group clearly describes expected proficiency levels for hospital-level and department-level leadership roles.

The new edition adds competencies related to data, health information technology, and crisis response. It serves as the foundation for designing training content, assessment, and management team development across the healthcare system.

The competency framework document will be widely shared on the VITAL portal for institutions to reference and apply.
